Seminar on Overlapping IP Rights
On 15 October, IP Academy held a seminar that examined the overlaps between different IP rights. The speakers at this session were Neil Wilkof of Dr. Eyal Bressler & Co., Dedar Singh Gill of Drew and Napier, and Irene Calboli of the Singapore Management University, with See Tho Sok Yee of the IP Office of Singapore moderating.
The seminar propounded the rationale for viewing IP from the vantage of overlapping rights, and explored a possible framework that can be applied in considering any IP overlap. Several important Singapore cases involving overlapping IP rights were also discussed. Participants to the seminar agreed that the course achieved its stated objectives and gave positive feedback on how they benefited from hearing the perspectives of the three speakers.
IPOS Practice Package – Trade Marks Proceedings and Mediation
On 27 October, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and IP Academy held a workshop on the topic of contentious trade mark proceedings. The one-day workshop was designed to be practical and hands-on, with participants broken up into groups of five to work on exercises after the sharing sessions by speakers from IPOS, the Singapore Supreme Court, the World IP Organisation, and the Singapore State Courts.
Participants gained insights into the practices and procedures for trade mark oppositions, invalidations, revocations and appeals, learnt the ins and outs of contentious proceedings at IPOS, and also took time out for a tour of IPOS’ Court Room.
